C-Why did you decide to commit to this 21 day challenge?
Carly: I decided to commit to this 21 day challenge because I needed to get back in the swing of working out after having a baby and have encouragement from other moms who understand how busy life gets with a newborn.
Mary: I decided to commit to this challenge because I have 2 kids and a busy life and always seem to put working out and healthy lifestyle on the back burner. Unfortunately some extra weight came with my 2 kids so I needed to figure out a way to get started on a program.
Rebecca: I decided to commit first, because you were the coach. I have plenty of local beach body coaches to choose from but I have so appreciated your style and leadership of this, and your testimony. So I said yes because I wanted to work with you! Second, I really wanted to get back to working out regularly, and in the past the only times I've succeeded was in community, so I thought giving a virtual community a chance would have great potential! With each pregnancy I gained and retained so being 25 lbs heaver than my wedding weight (post triatholon healthier me :)), I knew I needed to make a change! Also I was low energy with super energetic kiddos. I knew they would have more fun if I had the energy to play more, or go on more trips during the day, or play outside more! (More on the success in that below!!!)
C-What program did you select and did it challenge you?
Carly: I chose the 21 day fix extreme and it challenged me to workout in a new way with new moves since I've always just use to run as a workout. It also challenged me to put in perspective the food I was eating and how much of certain foods I tend to overeat because I had that "they're healthy foods though" mentality.
Mary: I did the 21 day fix extreme. My commitment to myself was mostly around the work-outs with healthier food choices. I plan to do another round with the actual food plan this time. Workouts definitely challenged me, you could hear me grunting from the next room.
Rebecca: I selected T25 and LOVED it! I have NEVER gotten such great results. I instantly felt slimmer and fit in to clothes better. I felt myself getting stronger, and it was so doable with it only being 25 min!! Also the modifer and your guidance allowed me to return to fitness safely at my own pace, which was a great blessing for consistency versus previously where I would dread going up the stairs (which hindered mom life for sure, versus helping it).
C-What were some scale / non scale victories you experienced?
Carly: I don't weigh myself because I tend to obsess over the number and base my success off of it even though muscle weighs more than fat but I did try on my pre-pregnancy jeans and I can actually button them again where as before I could barely pull them past my thighs. And I can see my belly starting to get toned again and getting smaller and less flabby.
Mary: I didn't weight myself so I don't know scale victories. But I do know that I can do a whole workout without stopping and don't have to follow the modifier as much.
Rebecca: So many non scale, as I mentioned above I only lost around 3lbs, but i feel more toned, so maybe I gained muscle, but I also have not been super on the nutrition. For non scale: More energy! (which was my main recorded goal) A couple of nights ago, I had dance party with my kiddos pre bedtime! I loved it knowing they were getting exercise and instead of facilitating from the couch, I was in it with them! Just one example of having energy when I normally didn't. But yeah, my mind goes towards active ideas more, I feel an inner athlete wake up inside me on the days I work out! My jeans are fitting better and my stomach feels more toned!, I also have more arm muscle! And I feel more equipped to work out well because Shaun-T explains things so well, I now know how to work out better (both safety wise and efficiency wise). OH and I learned about healthy foods that I didn't know I liked like! For example I i actually like brown rice more than white, and whole grain tortillas more than regular!
C-What was one way you grew spiritually?
Carly: One way I grew spiritually was by prioritizing my day and understanding that life with a newborn is sometimes unpredictable. I also became more in tune with my body and I have been working on training my mind to be positive and understand that being healthy is more than just the way you look.
Mary: I grew more mindfulness about priorities in life and how to follow and achieve them, not just with my workouts but also with understanding of how to become a better support for everyone.
Rebecca: Spiritually, The encouragement to be intentional and delight over duty. I have a lot of time that I could be praying, or spending time peacefully enjoying Jesus and my kiddos, that I ruin with technology or just grumpy attitude. Example: Praying while doing sleep training for Sophia.
C-Do you find this lifestyle maintainable and realistic?
Carly: Yes absolutely ! With the workouts only averaging around 30 minutes I find it very realistic and easy to squeeze somewhere in my busy day.
Mary: I plan to make this lifestyle realistic, not just for me but the whole family. I feel better eating healthier and working out.
Rebecca: So to be honest it was hard for me to find time for both a workout, and a quiet time. But now in week three and the crazy has died down at our house a little, I think with a little more sleep at night, I'll actually be able to get up and get it done in the morning!
C-Would you recommend this group to a friend?
Carly: I would highly recommend a challenge group to my friends and family and actually I have already told multiple people about it!
Mary: I would recommend a challenge group to anyone that needs a jumpstart and accountability.
