Let Go Of The "OWNER" Mindset

Updated: Oct 16, 2022

Stewardship was never the goal.

I exercised because I wanted to look good.

I over-exercised to see a certain number on the scale.

I exercised to gain man's approval.

Selfish ambition fueled my pursuit of wellness and it led to the longest and darkest valley.

Depression. Anxiety. A diagnosis of a binge eating disorder. Discontentment. Insecurity.

You name it. I walked through it.

So obviously the answer is don't try to get healthy because God doesnt care about it...right?

I once thought that way only I was convinced He didn't care so why bother consulting Him or letting Him lead that journey. The "owner"mindset deceived me into thinking my body was mine and I could do whatever I wanted to it without God's wisdom or guidance.

2010-2016 were some really hard years. On the outside, I kept it together but inside I was falling apart. The tighter my grip, the faster I lost control.

2015 was when I finally surrendered. I needed a new mindset--one that saw God as the OWNER and me as the steward--one that was willing to commit to self denial and do all things for God's glory and the good of others--one where I acknowledged that I am the sheep and HE is my Shepherd.

Pride had to be destroyed.

"You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies" 1 Corinthians 6:20.

This Scripture led the aha moment in my life. I am not my own. I am actually doubly owned. He made me and then He bought me.

3 truths :

1.Everything was created by God and for God.

2. He owns everything.

3. He entrusted me with specific things to manage + steward for His glory.

This includes my marriage, son, health, business, my gifts, talents, and resources--None of it is mine but each is my responsibility to care for.

In his amazing book, Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis said this: Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already.

Not sure I could say it any better.

So this is where I am now, friends. Learning how to walk with God in all areas of my life and stop compartmentalizing the Holy Spirit. I want to know Him intimately and make Him known boldly.

This blog is a space where I will be documenting my walk with Him (the things He allows me to share) that it may encourage YOU.

I will absolutely also share wellness tips + resources because it has truly become my passion since 2015 to help women take care of their body with REAL practical tools + solutions that are simple and sustainable and without worshipping their body. I want to see you steward your health for HIS glory and, as far as it depends on you, preventing your body from ever being a barrier to anything God calls you to do.

Should you ever be in a season where you want to specifically learn how to walk with God in the area of your health, you can check out the Wellness HIS Way tab and maybe we can work together!

For now, know that I am praying for you and looking forward to deepening my walk with God with you.

Love,

Caren
