I have been pretty MIA on here and it's because for the last week or so Graham and I have been at Disney World in FL! We wanted to do a post grad pre baby hurrah and this was the best place to do it. Even though I am 22 weeks pregnant and couldn't go on all the rides I still had a GREAT time! Wanted to share with you how I stayed on top of my nutrition (for the most part) and exercise while at Disney!
-We had a gym at our resort so I stuck with Body Beast and did a strength training in the mornings (around 6am) before hitting the parks. I didn't want to do any cardio since I knew we would be walking forever...which...we did. I think total we walked nearly 35 miles in 5 days!
By Thursday my body was DONE. So much walking and on Wednesday I did the BULK LEGS from Body Beast and my quads were trashed. SO, I slept in (sleep is super important), got up, and instead focused on stretch and balance to give my body what it needs to recover. There was a time I would push my body so hard with no rest days and it resulted in a fractured heel. Now I take a rest day every week and focus on active rests (walking, stretching, etc.).
I don't know why I ever thought Animal Kingdom would just be "okay" because I LOVED it! Just a random side note :) FYI: walking shoes are a must at Disney. I have the Sanuk flip flops which were great the first 2 days but then my sneakers had to come to the rescue. I don't know how people do it in regular flip flops :0...Pregnant or not...good shoes are vital! Protect your heels and knees!
My goal was to try as many new things as possible while keeping my protein & veggie intake high and my carb intake in check. We had Japanese food, Mediterranean food, seafood, African food, and more! Every night was different :) I am not afraid to splurge, but I splurge wisely! It was only on things I LOVED and I made sure I didn't let it become "reckless indulging" where I would feel crummy after. There IS a way to enjoy your vacations and live in the moment without letting it completely undo all your hard work!
-Splurge on what you LOVE not like
Also, I made sure to drink my vegan chocolate superfood shake every morning (yes we brought our blender to Disney) to keep me full and help curb junk food cravings throughout the day. Plus I needed to make sure I got all the nutrients I need for my baby and I in case I couldn't eat enough veggies or whatever throughout the day!
^^ Sums up our week + all the fun at the parks :)
Graham and I split this incredible key lime // lemon pie dessert. Worth every bite!
We bought our little man his first ever gifts from Disney World :) Truly a magical time and I am so grateful we could do it!
Though I am a certified personal trainer through AFAA, I am not a nutritionist. Any food posts on this blog are simply related to my journey!
