C: We are so blessed to be able to read/hear your experience as you have walked with God the last several years Fady! Can you tell us a little bit about you for those who don't know you?
Fady: I'm 25 and live in Boston, Massachusetts. I'm a worship leader and a pastor. My heart and vision is to see revival and awakening sweep New England. I'm getting married to my best friend in 25 days. I also love a good cup of black coffee first thing in the morning!
C: Amen! I cannot say an amen to the black coffee part, but amen to everything else!!!! When would you say your faith moved beyond just knowing God to experiencing God?
Fady: In short, I grew up in church, and had all the "right answers". You could say I knew about God. But I walked away from God and the church in high school and it wasn't until college that I met some real Christians and heard the gospel. In 2009, my dad forced me to attend a Christian conference called One Name Boston put on by the church I now serve at and attend. I was 19, lost, using and selling drugs, always getting in fights and just someone you really didn't want to be around. All I know is that I went to this conference and the Lord saved me- this preacher with a heavy British accent was talking about God's love and grace, which was unfathomable for me at the time. I never thought God could ever love someone like me, much less adopt me and make me new! By the time the weekend ended, I was a new person. My affections were radically altered and I began reading the Bible and praying on a regular basis, as well as getting really involved in church. So that weekend in '09 I met the Lord, and my life has never been the same! I would also add that as my relationship with God grows and progresses, I continue to move from simply knowing things about Him, to actually experiencing God and who He is.
C: There is something very special when you experience the depth and limitlessness of God's love...it cannot be undone! What is one thing God has been teaching you this season of your life?
Fady: I think the biggest thing the Lord's been teaching me recently is the power of humility and the importance of prayer. I honestly don't have much to say about humility, but I've just been recognizing my need for it and lack of it. And as for prayer, I've been learning that prayer changes you. Like literally, when we pray, we change. And it's amazing watching that in my life and in the lives of those closest to me.
C: Agreed, brother. How do you keep your eyes fixed on God when storms come your way?
Fady: The basics are really the most profound. I try to read my Bible and pray every morning, and that's really my short answer. But also I picked up this practice from one of my mentors and it's amazing. Whenever I feel like I'm going through a lot and feel that either God is distant or I am cold, I know I need to hear from Him. So I open up my Bible and start to read until I get a word from Him. Sometimes it's the first line of a Psalm I recite, other times I read through whole books until He speaks. Either way, I get in my Bible and I don't leave without hearing from him. The other day as I began to pray I recited Psalm 23, and didn't make it past verse 1, that was all I needed apparently. A few weeks ago, I went through two Old Testament books until I received a word. God always speaks and quenches our thirst when we're in a desert place, we just need to be intentional about seeking His voice.
C: If you could encourage those out there who are fearful of letting go and trusting God, what would you say?
Fady: I was just reminded of this Bible story by my soon-to-be wife, Renee, about the man with the demon-possessed son. He came to the Lord and said ''I believe, help my unbelief." And I was reminded of how it's often in the letting go and trusting that we get to experience God's goodness and trustworthiness. It's in the letting go and stepping out in faith that we get to experience more faith, which is a gift from Him. The man admitted his need, but also trusted God and stepped out, and then he received a miracle. I would also say that God is good and faithful. He is worthy of, and He in fact demands our full and unconditional surrender and trust. He never changes and so we can always count on Him. Without Him, nothing has meaning or purpose. But He invites us to join Him in changing this world, which he died to redeem. We are invited to partner with Him to do the most exciting and meaningful work there is. To live on earth as it it in heaven, to bring the gospel to bear on all spheres of life and love a dying and sinful humanity into the kingdom of the beloved Son. So jump in!
C: I certainly hope that those who take the time to read your testimony experience the love that God has for them through it! Thank you so much Fady. May God bless you and Renee in your ministry, your marriage, and your lives!
