I believe Jesus never lost sight of His mission and purpose because He created this solitary place daily. We all have excuses. Some are valid! Even still, what if we made time with God non negotiable? What if, like Jesus, we got up while it was still dark and found a solitary place to come on our knees and experience this deep and beautiful relationship with the Lord? Are you willing?
An emotional entry. I haven’t sat down to journal in 3 weeks but today I knew it was time to pick it up again. There is something about journaling that unlocks my mind and allows me to freely express myself and record what God is doing in my personal life.
Will you join me for scripture this morning? Grab your bible and open to Matthew 14:22-31. Yes I want you to go and read it for yourself first. I’ll be right here when you’re done!
In recapping, Jesus walks on water toward the disciples as they are on a boat and caught in a storm. Peter, suddenly bold, decides to ask Jesus to tell him to step out on the water if it was really Him. And Jesus says, “come.” Peter did it. He walked on water toward Jesus. But the moment his eyes shifted from Jesus and his ears from His voice, and on to the sound of the wind and the sight of the waves, he began to sink.
Friends, how often do we step out in faith only to be redirected by fear? I don’t know why I’m so emotional reading this passage this morning but I KNOW Jesus is talking to me. In my business, my dreams, this new project we are working on, finances.... why is it so easy to get redirected ????
I firmly believe we have to be so intentional about where we fix our eyes and alert of when it shifts. Jesus DOES NOT MOVE. So this morning, it’s faith over fear. Can you relate to Peter this morning?
With a setback is an opportunity for a comeback. And with a comeback is an opportunity for us to radically trust Jesus. Maybe this weekend was a struggle. Maybe you have some regrets. Well let’s choose to fail forward. That was the heart of our church before church time yesterday, right? All about moving forward not backward.
Here is my favorite comeback of all:
“I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40
Seek the Lord. Cry out. Wait patiently. And get ready for the comeback.
Are you a DOER?
James 1:22 says “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Recently I have been reading a book called Love Does by Bob Goff every night before bed (part of my no phone rule at 8:30pm). Each chapter is just 3 pages or so of a story that leads back to how love DOES. It’s always in action. It got me thinking at how often we are content with just saying things rather than following through with an action.
Jesus summed up our purpose in 2 primary commandments—“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.”-Luke 10:27. Love. Yet how many of us are obedient in that? How many of us DO what the Word says? Obedience is not writing scripture on plaques and framing them in our home. Obedience is not being able to memorize scripture. Obedience being a DOER of the Word.
Love isn’t easy. It’s so hard sometimes. People are messy. It requires a constant refocusing and surrender of self. It requires Jesus and His Holy Spirit. Can you think of one person on this Thursday to extend love to? Beyond just words—I am talking about an action. Without names, tell me how you will bring love to life with an action toward this person below.
A testimony about God showing OFF.
One thing to always remember is that God is ALREADY in our future? We can make decisions with peace + confidence when we seek Him FIRST. Today is pay day for the health company I work for from home. If you remember, on October 23rd, God called me to cut my hours back from 6 a day to TWO. HUGE adjustment for me. I was afraid. I had doubts. I didn’t understand. How was that going to help us bust out of $350,000 of debt?
Isaiah 40:28b “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth…. His understanding NO ONE can fathom.” Literally all I could do was trust you guys. He reminded me of my commitment to the purpose and the people at the heart of this business and I was losing sight of that chasing too many things. So I went back to the basics. Love Him, love my family, love people + serve with integrity while committing to my business hours with passion, purpose, focus, and making time for real and deep conversations. Joy was back. I love the heart of what I do because it’s not a fitness business, it’s a people business. It’s not about closing sales, it’s about opening RELATIONSHIPS.
So I trusted. Whatever happened, He has our family in HIS hands. He knows and sees the debt. He knows and sees our hard work. So who am I to argue with His plans? All I could do was be faithful in what HE was calling me to do. Today, I pulled up our reports for the WEEK (we get paid weekly) and saw a number I HAVE NOT seen in 2.5 years of working for this company. What? And working less. What? That’s Jesus.
Sometimes less is more when the less is marinated in God. God can do more with our less than we can do with our more. He said when we have faith as small as a mustard seed we can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for us! —Matthew 17:20. So why am I sharing this with you? Because I want you to know, if God is calling you to something that seems CRAZY…then get ready for Him to show up and show OFF. Because NOTHING is impossible for Him. He simply looks for obedient and willing hearts. Just know that the company I work for does not guarantee any level of income…it’s all based on your effort and your dedication + consistency. I am simply sharing what God has been teaching me in this journey of surrender and faithfulness !
This morning, I want to remind you that even when others fail you and hurt you, God’s love will NEVER fail. He will relentlessly pursue your heart and will enter the moment you open the door for Him. Sister, you are SO loved this morning. Just as you are. You don’t have to fight for the love, earn it, or change your appearance to get it. Just receive it and watch this pure love change YOU.
And just in case you need to read it one more time: “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”-The Message version.
Friends, we can receive freedom this morning. It is NOT earned. It is a gift. When we relinquish control and let GO, God’s overwhelming peace settles in. It defies logic. It defies understanding. Others will be concerned that you AREN’T stressed. But that’s because, you’re free and you’re His. He cares for YOU. So why waste another second worrying?
What is stealing YOUR peace? Let us hang on to His words + hide them in our hearts on this beautiful Friday.
